Travel Guides
Useful information about traveling to Tanzania (visa requirements, vaccinations, currency, weather).
Do
- Have fun!!
- With regard to securing your luggage. We would strongly recommend using one or more combination locks to secure zips together if your suitcase does not have its own lock. Luggage tampering in airports does occur unfortunately.
- Depending on your country of nationality will depend on what type of visa and how long prior you will need to apply for it. We strongly encourage for you to apply for your visa as soon as possible. If you are unsure about what type of visa you need to apply for, please contact your local Tanzanian embassy or consulate.
- Apply for a Tanzanian E-visa at least 14 days prior to travel. Theconfirmation must be printed and provided upon arrival. https://visa.immigration.go.tz/
- Your Visa application should only be applied on the official Tanzanian government website and not applied through the third party agent.
Don’t
- Get out of the safari vehicle while on your game drive!!
- Wear army print clothing. It is not advisable to wear any form of clothing that may be constructed as “camouflage”. By this we mean any form of brown/green “combat” style coloring. The authorities have a disproportionate phobia about such garments and this could conceivably result in you being questioned or harassed by the police. It has the potential to cause you grief. So don't do it.
- Do not take photos of the Police/Army
- Do not take any expensive personal jewelry on safari. Be minimalist or take only those everyday items that you normally wear, like your wedding band/ring and inexpensive earrings.

We do not want you to limit yourself however we would recommend packing light. Please note domestic travel within Tanzania only allows ONE checked bag (23kgs/50lbs), one carry on and a personal bag.
We would recommend due to limited space in the safari vehicles to use a duffle bag suitcase or soft suitcase rather than a hard case.
No bright colors, comfortable, lightweight earth toned clothing recommended. It will be good to pack a light jacket and/or hoodie as it may get cold during the day/night.
There is minimal walking but we would recommend closed comfortable shoes.
The repellant should include “deet” for optimal protection.
Recommended if you get motion sickness with elevation
A prescription is required to obtain anti-malaria tablets, we would recommend Atovaquone-progu anil aka Malarone
This is optional, there is currently no Yellow fever in Tanzania. The CDC does not recommend travelers to Tanzania to take it.
You will be taking a lot of photos, we recommend a good camera with a good zoom.
Currency
The Currency in Tanzania is Tanzanian Shillings, upon arrival we will always provide the opportunity to exchange your money with trustworthy exchange center. We recommend to exchange some money upon arrival, there are certain vendors in Tanzania that will only accept cash and you will need cash for tipping. Please note many places in Tanzania accept credit card payments, so make sure you notify your bank prior to travelling.
Weather
The best time to travel to Tanzania is during the dry season however we strongly believe there is no bad time to go on safari. During the different seasons there are different things to see with the wildlife.
Tanzania has two rainy season and two dry seasons, for the wet season the long rains between April to may and short rains between November to December. The dry seasons are June to October and Summer is between November to March.
Tanzania’s tropical climate is relativelyconsistent throughout the year however it depends on where in the country you are. The coastal areas such as Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar can be hot and humid, where as high altitude areas such as Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru can drop to below freezing temperatures.
